The D750 — the most popular used full-frame Nikon on the market today

There are good reasons why the D750 continues to dominate used camera listings years after it was discontinued. For the price, you get a 24 MP full-frame sensor, exceptional low-light performance, a tilting screen, and dual card slots. But there are things to know before buying one second-hand.

Shutter count: what's acceptable on a D750?

The official Nikon rating for the D750 shutter is 150,000 actuations. From real workshop experience:

The D750 oil-on-shutter issue — is it still a problem?

The D750 had a well-documented issue with the first production runs — the shutter mechanism ejected tiny oil droplets onto the sensor during shooting. Nikon ran a free repair program for affected units. All bodies that went through this program have the fixed shutter assembly installed.

When buying used, check: ask the seller whether the camera went through Nikon's service program. The serial number range of affected units was approximately 300xxxx–308xxxx. Bodies with higher serial numbers or from the second production run don't have this issue.

Other D750 weak points

• Grip rubber delamination: On older D750 bodies, the grip rubber can peel at the seams. Cosmetic only, but tells you about overall care.
• Flash commander interface: The built-in commander mode can develop connectivity issues over time.
• Bottom plate flex: Very heavy lenses (like 70-200 VRII) can cause slight flex in the bottom plate over years of vertical grip use — check for cracks near the tripod socket.
